Cardinia Shire Council is partnering with the Cardinia Environment Coalition Nursery to give away 5 free indigenous plants to 320 Cardinia Shire households.
Cardinia Shire Mayor Councillor Tammy Radford said this is an opportunity for residents to contribute towards a greener Cardinia.
"Native plants provide food and shelter for many species such as birds, butterflies and wildlife in our Shire," Cr Radford said.
"I encourage residents to plant native trees and plants in their gardens for healthy and long-term survival of our local ecosystems that contributes towards an environmentally healthy Cardinia Shire."
Residents will be able to choose from a selection of indigenous trees, shrubs and grasses as tube stock. Species include indigenous plants such as Gum trees, Wattles, Banksia, Correas, Lomandras, Dianella and much more.
Proof of residency required.
Plants are available from 9am-12pm on Fridays at Cardinia Environment Coalition Nursery, Deep Creek Reserve (62 Cameron Way, Pakenham) until Friday June 30, or while stock lasts.
We're also inviting schools, kindergartens, community groups and owners of properties more than 4000 square metres to apply for a native plant voucher to claim native plants to the value of $50 from the Cardinia Environment Coalition Nursery.
There are only a limited number of vouchers, so get in quick! Applications open 9am on Monday 6 March, until stocks last.
