The Territory Labor Government is delivering a budget boost to the major events industry, more funding to bring the biggest and best major events to the Territory.
In Budget 2024, Northern Territory Major Events Company (NTMEC) is receiving an extra $4 million bringing their total funding in this year's budget to $41 million.
This extra funding boost enables NTMEC to continue to deliver world class major events and attract new events to add to the already packed Territory calendar.
A component of the additional $4 million is continued investment into the Events Funding Program which provides support to local businesses to deliver sporting, community and cultural events.
The last round of the Event Funding Program in early 2024 provided over a million dollars to 31 local businesses, supporting a range of much loved events like the International Film Festival and Top End Gin Festival which this year stars international musician Matt Corby.
Throughout 2023, major events in the Northern Territory were responsible for generating 313,913 nights stayed by visitors and an economic benefit of $82.1 million of new money for the Territory, with an overall economic stimulus of $189 million.
Territory staple events like the GARMA Festival, Greek GlenTI and Tatts Finke Desert Race have been supported by NTMEC from the beginning and bring more than just economic benefits, they bring the community together and encourage social participation, skills development, volunteering and instil community pride.
