Gagebrook Man Taken Into Custody After Standoff With Police in Invermay

Police have taken a 33-year-old Gagebrook man into custody following a standoff with police in Invermay this afternoon.

Shortly before 3pm, police attempted to apprehend a man in relation to traffic offences in the vicinity of Gleadow Street.

The man attempted to flee before he assaulted and threatened police with a knife and subsequently barricaded himself inside a nearby warehouse.

Members of Tasmania Police, Ambulance Tasmania and Tasmania Fire Service attended the scene and the man was negotiated out of the building without further incident.

The 33-year-old Gagebrook man has been safely taken into custody and is assisting police with their inquiries.
