An investigation is underway after a man after allegedly assaulting several nurses, police and a member of the public at a hospital in Sydney's east overnight.
About 8.30pm yesterday (Saturday 25 April 2026), officers attached to Kings Cross Police Area Command were attending a hospital on Barker Street, Randwick, for an unrelated matter when they were alerted to reports of an assault in the hospital.
Police were told a patient – a 51-year-old man – had allegedly seriously injured a nurse's leg before assaulting two other nurses and a security guard.
During the alleged incident the 51-year-old also assaulted a 26-year-old woman – who was attempting to protect a nearby patient – with a garage bin.
On arrival, police have attempted to speak to the man; however, the 51-year-old allegedly assaulted one of the officers and a Taser was deployed to subdue him.
He was subsequently arrested and moved to a secure facility within the hospital.
The injured nurse was assessed at the scene and remained in hospital for further treatment.
The officer, hospital staff and member of the public who were allegedly assaulted were treated at the scene; however, did not require any further medical care.
Officers attached to Eastern Beaches Police Area Command have commenced an investigation into the incident.
Inquiries are continuing.
