Garage Sale Trail Launches in the Barossa

The Barossa community are set to join over 400,000 people across the country on Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 August as part of the ninth annual Garage Sale Trail.

A multi-award winning community and sustainability event, Garage Sale Trail is powered by 140 local councils nation-wide. It is expected that this year's weekend long event will involve more Australians than ever before, who will choose to reuse at over 16,000 garage sale events across the country.

Mayor Bim Lange said "We're really pleased to be involved in this grassroots national event as reducing waste and brining community together are priorities for The Barossa Council."

"Garage Sale Trail presents a fun and social way for Council to encourage the community to reuse and to better understand the impact we can make when we buy secondhand."

Last year household garage sales in the region made an average of $319 each, with more than 450kg of stuff being sold and redistributed at each garage sale. Importantly, 84% of those involved reported that they are now more conscious about waste and better understand their role in reducing it as a result of their involvement in the event.
