Yalukit Willam Nature Reserve's Gateway Building is a key element of the reserve's ambitious masterplan. Commencing construction marks another milestone in transforming the former Elsternwick Park golf course into a thriving urban nature reserve.
Earlier this week, Bayside Councillors celebrated with Federal Member for Macnamara Josh Burns MP and Member for Goldstein Tim Wilson MP to mark the commencement of structural construction.
Bayside Mayor, Cr Debbie Taylor-Haynes, said the Gateway Building will be much more than an entrance to the reserve.
"It will be a welcoming place to gather, learn and pause before exploring the wetlands, walking trails, Chain of Ponds, grassy woodlands and wildflower meadows beyond."
The facility will provide learning and engagement and provide spaces to connect community to country. The design includes a multi-functional community space including office and community meeting area, café and event and exhibition space.
We anticipate welcoming visitors through the gateway from winter 2027 and we can't wait to activate the new community space.
The significant Gateway Building project is led by Bayside City Council and supported by the Australian Government's $10 million Priority Community Infrastructure Program grant.
