Georges River Hosts Solar System for Science Week

Georges River Council

Georges River Council is inviting families, schools and science enthusiasts to take part in Solar Explorer, a large-scale, self-guided activity running from Saturday 9 August to Sunday 17 August as part of National Science Week 2025.

Solar Explorer is an interactive experience that lets participants explore a scale model of the solar system spread across suburbs in the Georges River area.

The trail begins at Hurstville Library, which represents the Sun. From there, planets have been placed at accurately scaled distances across Georges River, giving participants a real sense of just how vast the solar system is.

Each stop includes signage, clues and fun facts to encourage learning and discovery. A map will be available online so community members can follow the trail at their own pace.

While the inner planets can be reached on foot or by public transport, a vehicle is recommended for visiting the outer planets.

Georges River Council Mayor Elise Borg said, "Solar Explorer is a fantastic way to bring science out of the classroom and into the community.

"It turns everyday locations into a living model of the solar system, encouraging people of all ages to get curious, get moving and see the universe in a whole new way.

"I encourage everyone to follow the trail, discover each planet and go in the draw to win a prize for completing the full journey during National Science Week."
