Bellambi Boat Ramp's jetty is getting a much-needed revamp.
Key points:
- Work has started on Bellambi Boat Ramp jetty.
- The works are expected to take about two months to complete, provided we get good weather.
- The project is supported by grant funding from the NSW Government
Over the coming months we'll be replacing the jetty decking, fenders and walers, guardrails and concrete access ramp at the foreshore facility.
The essential works will extend the jetty's working life for another 10 years.
"This is an important project for this well-used facility in our community,'' Lord Mayor of Wollongong Councillor Tania Brown said.
"The work is expected to take about two months to complete and so, with good weather and ocean conditions, it should be wrapped up in time for spring.''
The project includes:
- Replacing the jetty deck tiles with Fibre Reinforced Polymer (FRP) panels.
- Building a new jetty entrance concrete access pad.
- Replacing vertical timber fender posts with Wood Plastic Composite (WPC) posts.
- Replacing horizontal timber walers with Fibre Reinforced Polymer (FRP) hollow sections.
- Installing new D-shaped protection rubber on jetty posts.
- Replacing the aluminium handrail on the upper deck level of the jetty.
- Cleaning, repairing or replacing ladders as needed.
- Other minor repairs.
"I want to assure fishers and boaters that they'll still be able to access the boat ramp during the works,'' she said.
"There will be a section of the ramp near to the jetty that will be fenced off and a portion of the car park used for construction equipment, but people will still be able to use the boat ramp and car park.
"I just ask that people follow the advice of construction team to keep everyone safe.''
Member for Keira, Ryan Park MP, said the project would support community safety at a much-loved location.
"The Bellambi Boat Ramp is more than just a facility, it's a place where locals and visitors come to fish, launching their boats, enjoy the water and spend time with family and friends,'' he said.
"This funding from the NSW Government's Boating Infrastructure Maintenance program will support important safety and accessibility upgrades to protect public access of this beloved local spot.''
