The Allan Labor Government is helping more people find work and succeed in their careers in Shepparton through targeted employment programs.
Minister for Employment Vicki Ward today visited the Rumbalara Medical Clinic where Jobs Victoria is delivering a local program to help people join the dental workforce.
Across Victoria, 100 people are being trained on-the-job as dental assistants through the 'earn and learn' program, which pays people to get the skills they need. The program is run in partnership with the Department of Health, Dental Health Services Victoria and Jobs Victoria, and is targeted to an industry where workers are needed.
At the Rumbalara Medical Clinic - a community controlled medical centre with an Aboriginal workforce - three dental trainees are undertaking the program and are expected to get their qualifications in October, helping to grow the clinic's local Aboriginal workforce.
Jobs Victoria is also supporting people in Shepparton who are looking for work through its Mentors program and Work and Learning Centre.
So far more than 300 people in the region have registered for the Mentors program since last October, delivered in partnership with local organisations Qualify, Rumbalara Football and Netball Club and Uniting.
Mentors help people by assisting with job applications, interview preparation and resumes, with the help designed to meet each person's needs and aspirations so they can find a job that's right for them.
The Work and Learning Centre, delivered by the Brotherhood of St Laurence, is continuing to help people find work with a focus on people living or waiting for public and social housing or experiencing homelessness.
The Centre provides assistance including connection with local training opportunities, work experience and jobs, help with job applications and career development, and connection with other support services.
