Bundaberg Police have charged a man with falsely claiming to be a returned Australian soldier and wearing service decorations that were not allocated to him.
It is alleged in August 2024 during a Vietnam Veterans Day event in Gin Gin, the man falsely claimed he had been deployed to Vietnam during his service in the Australian Army between 1964 and 1967.
It will be further alleged the man wore multiple medals at this event that are awarded to members of the Australian Defence Force who had served in Vietnam.
Police allege the man spent zero days overseas during his service with the Australian Army.
A 79-year-old Dalysford man has been charged with one count each of falsely representing to be a returned soldier, and improper use of service decorations.
He is due to face Bundaberg Magistrates Court on 18 August.
