Glenelg Concerts 3 & 4 January 2020, South Australia

There will be two concerts this week held at Glenelg Beach and Holdfast Promenade including the Castaway Concert (Friday 3 January) and Cold Chisel Blood Moon Tour (Saturday 4 January).

The general public is informed that parts of the Holdfast Promenade, Glenelg Beach front, Moseley Square and the entire Glenelg jetty will be closed both days.

The Castaway concert, rolls onto Glenelg Beach and Holdfast Promenade tomorrow (Friday 2 January) between 1pm and 10pm and the Cold Chisel Concert Saturday 4 January between 1.30pm and 10pm.

Patrons attending either concert can expect a highly visible and proactive South Australia Police presence, as foot, bicycle and Mounted Operations keep a watchful eye on crowd behaviour.

Castaway is an event for those 18+ and Cold Chisel is an all age's event where children under the age of 17 years must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Police ask those who are attending these concerts to be mindful of those around them.

The safety of concert-goers, as well as those living or driving around the Glenelg area, will be the foremost priority for SA Police, according to Superintendent Keryl Howie of the Western District.

"We ask those attending to be mindful of their personal safety, look after their fellow ticket-holders and make sensible choices," says Supt Howie.

"Don't drink excessively or behave in a reckless or antisocial manner that threatens your safety or the safety of those around you.

"We will be helping to sure that you can enjoy a safe and memorable event by looking out for intoxication, behavioural offences and illicit drug use.

Members from the Western District will be supported by the Dog Operations Unit to conduct an illicit drug detection operation throughout the Castaway concert.

"You will be refused entry, or evicted, if you are found in the possession of illegal substances.

"Don't gamble with your health, or risk a conviction and remember that there is no way of knowing what is in a pill, or what reaction an illicit substance might cause from one person to the next.

"Both events are licensed and patrons are reminded that if you are consuming alcohol to set a sensible limit and stick to it, overindulging can place you at greater risk of becoming the victim of serious assault.

"With warm weather expected over the next few days I would like to remind concert-goers to avoid over-exposure to the sun, drink plenty of water to stay hydrated and ensure that you are equipped with water, sunscreen and hats particularly when you're out in the sun.

"If you are attending a concert and require assistance please don't hesitate to speak with SA Police, medical officers or event officials at the first sign of trouble."

Police officers on foot patrol will be wearing high viability vests making them easy to identify should anyone need assistance.

Concert-goes can expect to see officers who will be monitoring behaviour on public transport services to the area with a particular presence on Jetty Road, Moseley Square and Colley Terrace.

There is no dedicated parking for these events and concert-goers are encouraged to use public transport or make alternative transport arrangements particularly if you are planning to drink. However, those who do drive to the event are reminded to ensure they lock their vehicle and conceal any valuables.

Drivers to the area are asked to please be alert to extra pedestrian traffic in the area and are warned that there may also be speed restrictions and road closures in place so please expect delays.
