Edward River Council wins NSW Government funding for new Skate Park
The Edward River Local Government Area has secured $500,000 from the NSW Government to construct a new skate park to support youth recreation and development in the region.
Council was successful in applying for the funding from the Places to Play program, under the NSW Government's Open Spaces Program - a $50 million investment in open space infrastructure supporting a variety of outdoor recreation opportunities for people of all ages and abilities, from skate parks and nature place spaces, to mountain bike track and obstacle courses.
Edward River Council Mayor Councillor Peta Betts said, 'Council thanks the Minister for Planning and Minister for Homes, The Honourable Anthony Roberts for releasing this funding to our local community which supports our strategic objective to build strong, confident and connected communities and water-based play activity programs'.
The Department of Planning and Environment engaged a professional skate park designer who worked closely with Council, local community groups, Yarkuwa and school students during 2022, to develop the concept design for the new Edward River Skate Park.
The Park will be located at the current site in Edwardes Street, and construction work is anticipated to start towards the end of 2023.
The Places to Play program helps to increase equitable access to public open space through a $16.7 million investment in projects that provide for adventure, nature and water based play activities such as mountain biking, scooter and skate places and pump tracks.
Together with the NSW Government, Edward River Council is working in partnership to deliver public open space that promote active, healthy and social lifestyles for people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds.
