Fuel providers will respond to the needs of regional Western Australians with timely restocking following the conclusion of the Cook Government's Fuel Security Roundtable this afternoon.

The roundtable was convened by the Premier and attended by government and industry leaders in response to concerns raised about fuel supply amid conflict in the Middle East.

The government was assured during the roundtable that supply to WA is continuing to arrive uninterrupted.

Following the roundtable, government and industry have agreed to the following actions:

  • the State Government will investigate prioritising fuel and fertiliser imports through WA's ports;
  • fuel providers will respond to the needs of regional Western Australians with timely restocking;
  • industry will explore the use of higher efficiency vehicles or road trains to support the delivery of fuel to the regions;
  • fuel retailers will take immediate measures to address excessive stockpiling;
  • the State Government will convene an Industry Operational Group, which will meet weekly to manage specific domestic supply chain issues as they arise;
  • the State Government will continue working closely with industry to raise WA's priorities with the Federal Government; and
  • industry and government will coordinate on public messaging to reassure Western Australians that supply is continuing to arrive in WA.

Today's discussion will support the State Government's ongoing engagement with the Federal Government, which has announced its own suite of measures to address supply concerns.

As stated by Premier Roger Cook:

"I understand there is a lot of anxiety right now across the community about fuel security, and I want to assure Western Australians that my government is doing everything it can to address these concerns.

"Western Australia has stared down global challenges before, and we will do what we need to do to keep WA strong.

"This roundtable was an opportunity to hear from people on the ground about the impacts and come together to work on ways we can make Western Australia even more resilient to these global challenges.

"I thank all those who attended and look forward to working with industry to implement these measures."
