Grant programs open to support major events and community building

Port Macquarie-Hastings

Port Macquarie Hastings Council is excited to once again open two grant programs that support local not-for-profits, sporting associations, event organisers, businesses and community groups.

PMHC's Community Grants and Major Events Grants open on Monday 22nd of August 2022, with applications closing on Sunday 18th September 2022.

The funding programs aim to provide a boost to projects, events and organisations that support and showcase a vibrant, connected, inclusive and engaged region.

Community Grants are available for local non-profit organisations who need support getting initiatives or projects off the ground.

There are five grant categories:

• Community Builders: For projects that can demonstrate a benefit to the wider community.

• Cultural Activities: To provide opportunities for people to participate in a broad range of arts and cultural activities that enhance quality of life.

• Community Celebrations: To provide events that engage the whole community, encourage celebration and strengthen community spirit.

• Youth Projects: For projects and activities that benefit young people and will have an ongoing benefit to youth in the community.

• Micro Grants: To support unexpected opportunities for our community organisations to enhance people, places and spaces.

The Major Events Grants stream provides financial support of up to $5,000 for events that can, or have the potential to attract visitors to our region, or positively contribute to the region's economic climate and generate destination exposure.

The funding can be used to support marketing activities such as website development, digital marketing and advertising or general expenses if the application is a sporting association.

Quick Grants of up to $1,000 are also available year-round and can be allocated towards any expenses for the event.

Mayor Peta Pinson has encouraged the community to get creative – and says first timers should definitely consider applying.

"There are so many ways to make a positive contribution to our community, and I encourage those that have applied in the past and first-timers to get involved," she said.

"We are committed to supporting innovative community projects and activations that add to the cultural fabric of our region. Please check your eligibility and utilise all the helpful information out there on how to apply."

"Both programs have a comprehensive range of categories, which means all ideas are welcomed and supported. We are looking for ideas that can demonstrate a benefit to the wider community, socially and or economically."

For qualification criteria and to apply by the closing date of 20 March, head to PMHC's Community Grants page – or Major Events page.
