The Andrews Labor Government has launched a new wave of grants to help more community groups across Victoria deliver road safety projects in their local areas.
Minister for Roads and Road Safety Melissa Horne today announced 11 community groups will receive a share of $270,000 in grants as part of the TAC Community Road Safety Grant program.
The program gives community groups the opportunity to work closely with locals to identify road safety issues in their area and implement solutions, by coming up with a project to overcome them.
The projects will help address concerns on local roads and improve safety for vulnerable road users including pedestrians, motorcyclists and people riding bicycles.
The Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology is among the recipients to share in the funding to develop bi-lingual road safety education materials for elderly Chinese pedestrians.
South Gippsland Specialist School has also received a grant, which it will use to purchase a bike trailer to extend its bike education program and improve student's bike safety skills.
The projects support the Victorian Road Safety Strategy 2021-2030, which aims to halve road deaths and reduce serious injuries by 2030 and sets the state on a path to zero road deaths by 2050.
