Griffith City Council is reminding residents to place their household bins correctly on collection day to help keep streets clean and allow collection trucks to safely and efficiently empty them.
Bins should be placed on the nature strip close to the edge of the road, with the wheels and handle facing towards the house. Bins should not be placed in the gutter, on the kerb or on the road.
Correct placement also helps ensure the street sweeper can effectively clean the gutter and road.
To make sure your bin can be safely accessed by the collection vehicle, residents are reminded to:
- place bins firmly on the nature strip, close to the edge
- position the wheels and handle towards the house, with the front of the lid facing the street
- leave at least one metre of space between bins
- keep bins at least one metre away from obstacles such as trees, power poles, letterboxes and parked cars
- put bins out the night before their scheduled collection day
- return bins to your property as soon as possible after collection.
"Correct bin placement makes a real difference," Griffith Mayor, Doug Curran said.
"It helps collection trucks safely access bins, keeps roads and gutters clear and allows street sweepers to do their job effectively.
"We encourage residents to take a moment when putting their bins out to make sure they are positioned on the nature strip, rather than in the gutter or on the road."
