- Almost $1 million in grants for groups caring for Western Australia's pets and wildlife

Animal welfare grants of up to $50,000 have been awarded to 33 recipients across the State as part of the Cook Government's ongoing commitment to supporting the care and wellbeing of pets and wildlife in need.
Almost $1 million in grants has been awarded to support the welfare of companion animals and wildlife for not-for-profit activities that foster and rehome pets, rehabilitate wildlife, and provide low-cost or free animal health and veterinary services.
Social welfare advocates Veterinary and Community Care is one of 33 organisations to share in $1 million worth of grants and will use its $50,000 grant by working with its community vet centre partners including Animal Happiness Vet in Manning to help people experiencing hardship access free, essential veterinary care to support the wellbeing of their companion animals.
The latest round of grants delivers on the Cook Government's 2025 election commitment to extend this valuable program with $2 million across two years.
The grants are supporting a diverse range of projects for recipient from the Kimberley to the South Coast including wildlife rescue kits, rescuing and rehoming livestock, handling equipment to rescue pigs, an eco-pond for rehabilitated turtles and water birds, and the construction of an aviary for threatened birds.
Grants for metropolitan companion animals include $50,000 to the RSPCA WA for cat housing, $29,565 for Impound Feline Rescue to rescue, treat, and rehome cats and kittens, and $30,000 to Oldies but Goodies Dog Rescue for essential care and veterinary services.
Several organisations across the Gascoyne, Esperance, Kimberley, metro, and Peel have received grants for subsidised vaccination and desexing programs for companion animals to support long-term animal welfare outcomes.
This latest round of funding brings the total Animal Welfare Grant Program distribution to $4.2 million to 145 recipients throughout the regions and the Perth metropolitan area since 2021.

"The Animal Welfare Grant Program is a great initiative that is supporting WA carer organisations to improve the welfare of companion animals and wildlife throughout the State.
"Delivering on our 2025 election commitment, this round is funding a diverse range of projects from supporting rescue raptors and swans, to pigs and Maremma guardian dogs, to kangaroos and aquatic wildlife, as well as activities that look after our cats and dogs.
"I applaud the work of these amazing groups, who, together with our grant support, are making a difference to animals' lives and improving long-term animal welfare in WA."
