Grants To Spur Jobs And Economic Development In Regional WA

  • Applications for Regional Economic Development Grants program now open
  • $5 million in funding available for projects to build thriving regions and communities
  • Program has supported more than 400 projects since 2018

The Cook Government has opened Round 8 of its Regional Economic Development (RED) Grants program, which will see $5 million invested into projects across regional WA, generating jobs and economic growth.

Funding is now available for locally driven projects that support jobs, expand or diversify industry, develop skills or capability, increase business productivity, and attract new investment to the regions.

Recent success stories include Kalgoorlie-based business Hydramech Engineering, which today launched its new CNC Measuring Machine. This equipment will allow the company to design and manufacture equipment in-house as opposed to having materials sent from Perth.

This was made possible through a $90,000 RED Grant it received in the most recent round.

Another successful recipient was Geraldton Building Services and Cabinets, which received a $100,000 grant in Round 7 to build a modular building construction factory. Modular buildings, including full homes and accommodation units, will be manufactured year-round in this facility, creating up to 20 full-time jobs, including 4 apprenticeships.

The Cook Government is investing more than $60 million over 11 years towards the RED Grants program to stimulate economic growth and development in regional Western Australia.

Applications for Round 8 are now open and close on 9 January 2026. More program information, including guidelines and application details, is available at www.dpird.wa.gov.au/REDs

As stated by Regional Development Minister Stephen Dawson:

"The Cook Government is committed to investing in our regions through diversifying economies and providing quality jobs.

"The RED Grants program is a fantastic example of this, and it's great to see the difference these grants are making in our community.

"These grants support initiatives that create real economic impact and employment opportunities in regional WA.

"Since 2018, the program has supported 415 projects focussed on business innovation and industry diversification, workforce development, tourism expansion, Aboriginal economic development, growing primary production, and supporting vibrant communities.

"I encourage regional businesses and community members to consider opportunities where RED Grants funding could support local projects which make a difference to their local economy and community."
