Grass slashing underway despite rain

The City of Greater Geelong's mowing, slashing and roadside spraying programs are behind schedule due to recent and ongoing rain, but city crews are working hard to catch up as the ground begins to dry.

The City's slashing program includes cutting more than 1100 kilometres of roadside grass across Greater Geelong, and the removal of woody weeds.

The La Nina weather event impacting south eastern Australia has limited Council's ability to access and cut grass across the municipality.

The City is responsible for maintaining roadsides along council-owned roads, while VicRoads is responsible for maintaining roadsides of roads owned by VicRoads.

If you are concerned about long grass or fire risks in your area, you can log a service request or phone 03 5272 5272.

Director of City Services Guy Wilson-Browne

We appreciate people in our community are frustrated and concerned about the amount of grass growth and we are hearing that loud and clear. We've had an unprecedented amount of rain for this time of year, and the wet mowing conditions have been frustrating for our crews.
Grass slashing is priority issue for Council and we want to thank everyone for understanding and patience as we work to slash as much grass as possible.
