Green Reading Room Opens At Rockdale Library: Bayside

Step into a place where stories and nature grow side by side.

On Tuesday, 7 October, Bayside Council will officially open the Green Reading Room, a unique eco-friendly space nestled on the second-floor balcony of Rockdale Library.

Visitors may already have spotted the stunning mural by local artist Sha'an d'Anthes, which brings the balcony to life with colour and creativity. But there's even more to discover: native plants, buzzing stingless native bees, and a calm, leafy setting that invites you to slow down, breathe, and read.

Created to celebrate sustainability, nature, and the joy of reading, the Green Reading Room is a collaboration between the Library and Council's Environment and Sustainability Team, who carefully planned the native plantings and introduced the thriving beehive.

Whether you're curling up with a novel, studying, or simply enjoying the fresh air, this green oasis offers a new way to experience your library.
