Families in Melbourne's west will enjoy cooler and shadier streets thanks to investment by the Allan Labor Government.
Minister for the Environment Steve Dimopoulos today announced a $190,000 investment to create a tree canopy across four sites across western Melbourne through the More Trees for a Cooler, Greener West program.
Partnering with Maribyrnong City Council, a turning lane will be realigned on Williamstown Road between West Footscray and Seddon to make way for green space.
Partnering with Yarra Trams, two urban arbours will be installed in spaces at tram stops in Maribyrnong and Moonee Valley.
Delivered with Metro Trains, an urban arbour will be installed on a platform at Glenbervie Station in Essendon.
The projects demonstrate the importance of using creative solutions to increase canopy coverage such as urban arbours - which are structures that plants can grow around to provide shade and greenery in urban landscapes.
All three cooling projects are part of the Government's More Trees for a Cooler, Greener West program which has planted over 419,000 trees to date in partnership with a variety of local councils, including Brimbank, Hobsons Bay, Maribyrnong, Melton, Moonee Valley and Wyndham.
The program is set to complete these flagship projects and achieve its 500,000 planted trees target by the end of 2026, showcasing the Government's commitment to improving the city's liveability.
