Backing community recovery with $7.8 million for Dromana College

Families, students and residents across Dromana and surrounding communities are set to benefit under a new commitment announced today by the Victorian Liberals and Nationals.

Under this plan, a significant upgrade and extension of the Dromana College Sporting Complex will provide additional resources for both the school and broader community.

The $7.8 million upgrade will deliver a state of the art six court mixed-use indoor facility with supporting amenities and the capacity to seat up to 2,000 students, staff and community members.

With around 1,800 students and more than 200 staff, the new seating capacity will enable Dromana College to hold full school assemblies for the first time.

These upgraded facilities will also benefit the Peninsula Specialist College, Southern Peninsula Basketball Association and several other community and sporting organisations.

Leader of Opposition, Matthew Guy, said this important upgrade is part of the Liberals and Nationals' plan to recover and rebuild.

"A Government I lead will deliver the facilities that local communities need to move forward, recover and rebuild," Mr Guy said.

"After two years of lost learning and social development, upgrades like these will help students and the broader community get back on track."

Shadow Minister for Education, David Hodgett, said the Liberals and Nationals were focused on supporting school communities to recover from the world's longest lockdown.

"Our plan will deliver the facilities Dromana College students deserve and create a new sporting hub for the whole community to enjoy," Mr Hodgett said.

"The Victorian Liberals and Nationals support leveraging school facilities to benefit the broader community and that is what this plan delivers."

Liberal Candidate for Nepean, Sam Groth, said the Liberals and Nationals' planned upgrade was a win across the board for Dromana and Peninsula communities.

"This upgrade is a serious boost for Dromana College and will help their outstanding school community to recover and rebuild," Mr Groth said.

"Schools can be more than 9-3 and our plan will unlock a state of the art facility to be enjoyed by sporting and community organisations from across the Peninsula."
