On Friday the 25 July 2025, Council held their annual National Tree Day. Residents of our community gathered at South West Rocks and the Kempsey Library to grab their very own tree or shrub and information sheet on how to care for their native tree.
However, once all the excitement settles down, many people forget about the importance of caring for their plants or completely forget them all together.
So, the big question is: Have you checked on your trees after collecting them on National Tree Day?
How to check for signs that my plants are struggling?
Plants don't hide when they are sick. 4 common visual signs that your plants are struggling are:
- Leaf Curling This is due to a poor watering schedule which can lead to an infestation of pests such as aphids.
- Leaf Dropping This occurs when there are rapid changes in the temperature, water availability and humidity.
- Yellowing of the leaves This is caused by a nutrient deficiency in the soil, root damage, disease and poor drainage.
- Stunted or Slow Growth This is caused by roots being 'bound' in a small container for long periods of time, as well as insufficient light and nutrient deficiency.
