NPWS Area Manager John Whittall said the purpose of the burn is to reduce fuel loads in the landscape across the Pilliga.

"The 670-hectare Yarrigan West burn will commence on Friday with further burning, mop up and patrol continuing as required," said Mr Whittall.

"NPWS crews will be working within Yarrigan NP about 10 km south of Baradine and 10 north of Bugaldie.

"Distributor roads such as Baradine Rd and villages such as Bugaldie and Baradine may be impacted by smoke depending on the wind.

Several localised park road closures will be implemented within Yarrigan NP and will be listed on the National Parks and Wildlife Service alerts and closures page on the NPWS website.

"Locals are reminded to please exercise caution and follow directions of NPWS crews if driving on roads in the area.

"If you are vulnerable to smoke, we encourage you to stay indoors and keep your doors and windows closed to reduce exposure.

"This burn is one of the many that we are working hard to carry out in national parks across the Central West and North West regions region during winter."

Hazard reduction burns are essential to reduce bushfire fuel loads to help protect the parks, neighbours and communities from future bushfires.

All burns across New South Wales will continue to be coordinated with the NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS) to ensure the impact on the community, including from smoke, are assessed at a regional level.
