Helicopter crash, off Curtis Island

A search for a helicopter missing off Curtis Island with two men on-board ended when the men were located on a beach near Curtis Island shortly after midnight Sunday, March 19, 2017, Queensland Police say.

The men were found by the RACQ Rescue 300 helicopter after it spotted their partially submerged helicopter on the eastern side of Curtis Island and landed on a nearby beach.

A search of the area by the crew located the injured men lying on the beach.

Both men – a 56-year-old from Margate and a 61-year-old from Scarborough- sustained serious injuries and were transported to Rockhampton Base Hospital by Rescue 300.

An air and sea search had been commenced after a number of items, including luggage, an esky and fishing rods, were located floating in waters off Sea Hill, Curtis Island around 12.20pm yesterday.
