Help Shape Future Of Pakenham Golf Course

Community feedback is invited to help guide the future use of Pakenham Golf Course at Deep Creek Reserve.

The findings of the Pakenham Golf Course Feasibility Study were presented at the Council meeting on 18 August, along with a recommendation to commence a four-week community engagement process to gain community feedback on the options within the feasibility study.

The feasibility study considered a number of options relating to the future of the golf course, including the continuation of golf or the use of the site as open space.

Cardinia Shire Mayor Cr Jack Kowarzik said Council had also affirmed its commitment to the community that it has no intention to rezone and sell the land on which the golf course is located.

"We understand how important this is to our community, and we acknowledge the connection the community feels to this site and the contributions that community members have made to the golf course over the years," Mayor Kowarzik said.

"I want to reassure the community that Council does not intend to sell or rezone the land, and that all options being explored for the site comply with current land use zoning.

"We're now inviting the community to provide feedback on how they use the site now, or how they may use it in the future. Council would like to understand how the community prefers to use the site and what the community thinks about the options when considering all factors, including financial implications for ratepayers, community benefits, and potential impacts."

Once the engagement phase is complete, Council will analyse and consider the feedback received by the community, along with costs and financial feasibility, risks, benefits, community needs and impacts, before making any decisions about the future use of the golf course. Council expects to make a decision on this phase of the project later this year.

Currently, the Pakenham Golf Course, cafe, bistro and function rooms remain closed until further notice. In the meantime, community members can continue to visit the Deep Creek Eco Playspace, wetlands and kickabout area and use the public toilets. Cardinia Environment Coalition continues to operate from the site.

Community engagement is open until 17 September 2025. Feedback can be provided through a survey online or by attending one of the following drop-in sessions at Deep Creek Reserve on:

  • Wednesday 27 August, 4–6 pm
  • Friday 5 September, 10am–12pm
