Horsham Rural City Council is inviting the community to provide feedback on the draft Active Horsham Strategy 2026-2036 as part of the second stage of engagement.
This important 10-year strategy will help shape the future of sport and active recreation across Horsham Rural City.
The draft Strategy aims to:
- Establish a shared vision for active recreation and sport that is inclusive, accessible and sustainable
- Focus on improving and maximising the use of existing facilities
- Support flexible, multi-use spaces that can be shared by different groups
- Strengthen partnerships with local clubs, schools, health services and community organisations
- Measure progress through data and ongoing community feedback
- Align with key plans including the Council Plan, Community Facilities Strategy and the Victorian Health and Wellbeing Plan
Planning for the Strategy has been underway since last year and has been shaped by community input gathered between April and July through an online survey and targeted workshops with clubs, associations and service providers.
Feedback from the first stage of engagement has played a key role in ensuring the draft Strategy reflects local priorities, challenges and opportunities. The draft Strategy is now on public exhibition until 25 April.
Stage 2 of engagement invites the community to review the draft Strategy and tell Council whether it has got it right, or if anything has been missed. Community members are encouraged to provide feedback from Wednesday 25 March, before the Strategy is finalised and presented to Council.
"Sport and recreation play an important part in many of our lives," said Mayor Brian Klowss. "We recognise the importance of meeting the needs of everyone who wants to benefit from an active lifestyle.
"Horsham has quality facilities and a strong community spirit. We encourage the community to help us build on these strengths and create more opportunities by providing their feedback."
