The focus of the masterplan is to enhance the existing features of the Nightcliff Village beyond the market use. This will create a vibrant local centre that transforms Nightcliff Village to a new comfortable, engaging and inviting space.

Lord Mayor Kon Vatskalis said while the Nightcliff Markets were a key drawcard, Nightcliff Village had the potential to offer a great deal more to the community.

"We want to activate the spaces, store frontages and laneways in Nightcliff Village and make it a community hub that is vibrant through the week and at night times," Mr Vatskalis said.

Key enhancements to the site will include improved pedestrian access, activation of laneways, additional landscaping, and upgrades to seating, shading and stormwater drains.

In 2022, a thorough planning and consultation process was undertaken to inform the design. Now as the masterplan will be rolled out in phases, City of Darwin wants to hear from stakeholders and community to help prioritise the features we all value most.

The masterplan aligns to City of Darwin's strategic direction of 'A capital city with best practice and sustainable Infrastructure'. The design goals are focussed on delivering a cool, green and clean space for the enjoyment of the community.

Residents are invited to view the City of Darwin's draft Nightcliff Village masterplan and share their thoughts by completing the survey at https://engage.darwin.nt.gov.au/nightcliff-village-masterplan

The survey closes 7 April 2023.
