Assistant Minister for Manufacturing Tim Ayres made the pitch while opening Australian Made Week at family-owned catering equipment manufacturer Luus Industries in Melbourne's West today.
Assistant Minister Ayres said "The COVID19 pandemic has been a reminder that manufacturing matters, and that is why the Albanese Labor Government is committed to rebuilding our science, innovation, skills, and manufacturing capability after a decade of neglect.
Over the last decade the Australian economy has become less diverse, our exports less complex, and opportunity has shrunk as our exports have slipped down the global value chain.
Australian Made week is a great opportunity to remind each other about the skills of Australia's manufacturing workers, the capability of our firms, the quality of our food, resources and agriculture, and the ingenuity of our science, research, and innovation.
It is also well past time to go past marketing slogans: that is why Labor has come to government with the biggest industry policy offering in Australian history. Our 15 billion dollar National Reconstruction Fund and our Buy Australian Plan will make a real difference to the future of Australian manufacturing, economic development and good jobs for Australians in the regions and suburbs."
