Celebrating Carers Advisory Councils Outgoing Members

Carers Advisory Council celebrates and farewells seven of its members.

The Carers Advisory Council recently celebrated and farewelled seven of its members - some of whom have served for more than 10 years.

Among them was Esme Bowen, the Chair of the Council for over a decade, from 2015 to June 2026.

"It has been my honour to serve on the Council and use my experience as a carer to help inform carer experiences and support positive change for carers in Western Australia," said Esme.

Unpaid carers support their loved ones to live with independence and dignity, providing essential support to people affected by disability, mental illness, chronic health conditions, terminal illness, an alcohol or drug issues or frail and aged.

"Our sincerest thanks go to all outgoing Council members for their valuable contributions. Esme's leadership and strong impact to advancing the experiences of carers in Western Australia is to be celebrated and commended," said Karina Chicote, Executive Director Strategic Policy. "Gloria Moyle, Anton Vis, Jenni Perkins, Beatitude Chirongoma, Joshua Patrick and Ros Thomas have contributed significant experience to stewarding the Council and leave a valuable legacy that will continue to benefit carers into the future."

After a successful Expression of Interest process, new members have been appointed to the Council that bring diverse expertise and lived experience of caring in Western Australia:

  • Ms Amber Anthony
  • Ms Angelina Watson
  • Mrs Ann Dawson
  • Dr Barbara Goodwin
  • Mrs Thurka Sitparan
  • Mrs Tracey Constable

Carrie Clark, previously the CEO of Kiind, Western Australian's largest membership organisation of parents and carers of children with disabilities was appointed as the new Chair.

The Council provides advice to the Minister for Community Services about issues impacting carers and meets regularly throughout the year, including hosting regional forums to hear directly from carers across Western Australia.

It was established in 2005 to bring together individuals with knowledge of, and lived experience in, matters relevant to carers.
