The biennial Bruce Wilson Memorial Heritage Lecture will return to Greater Shepparton next month, with residents invited to explore the region's rich history through a special presentation on stained glass.
Greater Shepparton City Council is encouraging community members with an interest in heritage and local history to attend the lecture, 'Hidden in Plain Sight: Stained Glass in the Goulburn Valley'. Two sessions will be delivered by renowned historian and stained-glass expert Dr Bronwyn Hughes OAM.
Mayor, Councillor Shane Sali said Council was proud to support the return of the Bruce Wilson Memorial Heritage Lecture, which continues to celebrate and promote the region's heritage.
"This year's lecture provides an important opportunity for our community to engage with and better understand the history that shapes Greater Shepparton," he said.
"The Goulburn Valley has an impressive collection of stained glass, and this presentation will help bring those stories to light."
Dr Bronwyn Hughes OAM brings more than 40 years of experience in stained glass research and education and was awarded an OAM in 2019 for services to the fine arts. She is a leading advocate for the preservation of historic stained glass and founder of GLAAS Inc.
Greater Shepparton Heritage Advisory Committee Councillor Representative, Cr Fern Summer, Yanha Gurtji Ward, said the lecture would highlight an important and lesser-known aspect of our region's heritage.
"Stained glass is an important part of our built heritage and reflects both creative skill and community history. I encourage anyone interested in Greater Shepparton's past to attend the lecture and celebrate the significance of these works," she said.
Two lecture sessions will be held on Wednesday 17 June 2026 at Riverlinks Eastbank, Shepparton, at 1pm and 5.30pm (for a 6.00pm start).
