The transformation of Midland's rail workshops into a vibrant urban regeneration precinct is moving full speed ahead, with DevelopmentWA today calling for developers to submit proposals for the final two heritage listed workshop sites.

Set within the Midland Health and Knowledge Precinct, Workshop 2 (1.23ha) and Workshop 3 (1.47ha), which once supported Midland's railway industry, offer flexible development opportunities including mixed-use offerings, performing arts, creative industries, hospitality, and potential residential uses.

Workshop 2 can accommodate a two-storey development within the building footprint. Workshop 3 has allowances to develop up to eight storeys, enabling innovative designs that combine warehouse-style commercial spaces with potential residential extensions.

The Offers Invited period for Workshops 2 and 3 of the Railway Precinct closes on 30 April 2026, and interested applicants are encouraged to submit via Tenderlink.

This is the latest release to further bolster Midland's growing community and regeneration.

DevelopmentWA has already released two1,400sqm grouped housing sites late last year.

Lots 928 and 929 are located 500m from the new METRONET Midland Train Station and permit up to eight storeys, increasing the residential offerings to support the Health and Knowledge Precinct expansion.

In addition, two sites in the Midland METRONET precinct will be the location of two developments that form part of DevelopmentWA's 14 Build-to-Rent apartment development program, which will provide up to 1,146 new homes across the Perth metropolitan area.

Located either side of the rail line near the new Midland Station, the Woodbridge and Midland developments will provide 176 apartments, comprising of 140 affordable and 36 social, one and two-bedroom homes, increasing housing availability in the area.

Woodbridge is on track to start construction in March and Midland late 2026.

Midland's urban renewal project, underway since 2000, continues to transform the City Centre and revitalise the gateway to the Swan Valley and Perth Hills, with more than $1 billion in combined government and private investment.

The vision is to create a thriving city that attracts businesses, residents and tourists to Perth's eastern corridor.
