HKU Launch of Talk with Flow Mental Health School Tour

The University of Hong Kong (HKU) has been invited to participate and is the first station among 11 participating institutions in The Mental Health School Tour - "Talk with the Flow", organised by the Department of Health. Guests and experts from the Health Bureau, Department of Health, the Advisory Committee on Mental Health and the University gathered together on the Centennial Campus today (February 27) to launch this exciting tour.

HKU places high importance on fostering student wellness and mental health. While students return to face-to-face classes and enjoy the vibrant campus life as COVID-19 is brought under control, they also face various challenges during the transition. This is the moment for the whole university community to come together and pay attention on mental health.

Centre of Development and Resources for Students (CEDARS) fully supports the initiative. The tour will take place from 27 February to 3 March 2023 at HKU. An eye-catching mobile kiosk will be parked outside The Jockey Club Tower on the Centennial Campus. Mental health packs with tips card, stress relief toys, stickers etc. will be distributed. Moreover, staff and students can refresh their minds by picking a flavour that best fits their mood among the "No More Moody Bottles".

A series of activities are selected for students and staff. These include sharing session by TreeHoleHK and StoryTaler, movie screening and debriefing for "The Falls", and other wellness workshops. Through different events, students and staff are encouraged to start the conversation and dig deeper into mental health issues.

Professor Samson Tse, Dean of Student Affairs of HKU said, "The treatment provided by the University's medical and psychological professional teams is of great importance to students in distress. At the same time, acceptance, care and understanding from peers and teachers plays a pivotal role to their coping and recovery. We shall keep the mental health conversations flow on campus."

The tour is part of the territory-wide mental health campaign, "Shall We Talk", which was launched by the Advisory Committee on Mental Health. It aims at raising awareness and reducing the stigma towards mental health issues.
