HKU to award honorary degrees to 7 individuals at 209th Congregation

The University of Hong Kong (HKU) will confer Honorary Degrees upon seven outstanding individuals at the 209th Congregation to be held on April 3 (Monday) in Loke Yew Hall on the Main Campus. HKU Pro-Chancellor Dr the Honourable Sir David Li Kwok Po will officiate at the Ceremony.

The Honorary Degree recipients to be conferred at the Congregation are:

Doctor of Science honoris causa

Steven CHU

Jack DANGERMOND

John L HENNESSY

YANG Chen Ning

Doctor of Social Sciences honoris causa

Carol M BLACK

Colin LAM Ko Yin

Brigitte LIN Ching Hsia

The conferment of Professor YANG Chen Ning, Dr Colin LAM Ko Yin and Ms Brigitte LIN Ching Hsia has been postponed from a Congregation originally scheduled for November 2022. Professor YANG Chen Ning is unable to attend the ceremony and will be conferred in absentia.

Honorary Degrees are awarded to individuals in recognition of their distinguished service and commitment to the University, the community, and to academia. They are also conferred to those who have made valuable intellectual, social and cultural contributions to society and the world.

Date: April 3, 2023 (Monday)

Time: 5:30pm

Venue: Loke Yew Hall, Main Building, HKU
