HKU Tops 2026 QS World University Rankings by Subject

The University of Hong Kong (HKU) continues to demonstrate its academic excellence in the 2026 Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings by Subject. HKU excels in key disciplines, with Dentistry ranked 2nd and Education & Training ranked 5th in the world. The University also leads in frontier disciplines, with Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (AI) achieving the highest ranking among Hong Kong institutions at 18th worldwide.

Professor Xiang Zhang, President and Vice-Chancellor of HKU, remarked, "This accomplishment is a collective endeavour, attributable to our distinguished faculty and diligent students. Our leading positions across science and humanities disciplines reflect the University's all-rounded academic excellence and its commitment to pioneering interdisciplinary research. Founded on this, HKU will establish an AI Hub to maximise the potential of 'AI + X' across disciplines, serving the nation and exerting a positive influence on a global scale."

Out of the 51 HKU fine subject areas ranked, 29 rank among the global top 50, with eight securing places in the top 20. These include Dentistry (2nd), Education & Training (5th), Geography (11th), Architecture and Built Environment (14th), Library & Information Management (15th), Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (18th), Law & Legal Studies (20th), and Civil & Structural Engineering (20th).

The 2026 QS World University Rankings by Subject evaluate universities based on various indicators, including academic reputation, employer reputation, citations per paper, H-index, and international research networks.
