The festive season and school holidays are officially upon us.

While Santa takes care of the big day in December, details are now available for the full summer school holiday activities program across the NT.

Families can splash, skate, bounce, bake and geek their way into the new year.

The Territory Labor Government invests $2.18 million dollars through the Office of Youth Affairs each year so families can make the most out of holiday breaks, including through the festive season.

Local organisations, community groups and local governments receive funding for youth engagement and development activities and events to keep school children and their families entertained and connected.

More than 550 events are on offer across the Territory including sports, arts and crafts, music and dance, cooking, and mentoring and support programs.

Among the highlights in Darwin is the return of Geektacular, a free event at Casuarina Library for the inner geek and nerd within us all.

More than 360 of the activities have been programmed outside of Darwin, and across all regions which include in Katherine, Alice Springs, Tennant Creek, Gove Peninsula, and in and around Palmerston.

School holidays start this Friday, 16 December and run to Monday, 30 January 2023.

Most activities are free, with full details available online: here.

Quotes from Minister for Youth, Lauren Moss:

"While all school holidays provide an opportunity to connect with our families and communities, there's always something special about the end of year break.

"It includes Christmas and the exciting future promised by a new year that brings change but is also filled with opportunity.

"This school holiday program provides an exciting and diverse range of activities to keep everyone busy and connected, to make new friendships and to have a world of fun."
