This week, legislation to support Help to Buy, the Short Stay Levy and changes to the Residential Tenancy Act 1997 will be debated in the House of Assembly.
Minister for Housing and Planning, Kerry Vincent, said our Government was getting on with the job of building homes for Tasmanians.
"We know increasing supply is key, and it is fantastic to see the progress made at a New Town construction site where 13 two-bedroom apartments are underway," Minister Vincent said.
"The delivery of housing is something that every corner of Tasmania must take seriously.
"The medium-density infill development at New Town is the way of the future in Tasmania.
"It places these homes closer to services, education and employment meaning better opportunities for the tenants and more productivity in our urban areas.
"To support this, the Government has a strong legislative agenda this week.
"Enabling legislation for the Australian Government's Help to Buy program - similar to the Tasmanian Government's MyHome program, will be before the Parliament.
"Our short stay levy will mostly be paid for by interstate and overseas visitors which allows us to reinvest the raised funds back into housing initiatives for Tasmanians.
"We are also making rentals safer for tenants through changes to the Residential Tenancy Act 1997.
"Bricks and mortar are important, but must work in partnership with the legislation as well - which is exactly what we're getting on with delivering."
