Huntingfield housing process limps along at snail's pace

Tasmanian Labor

The Liberal government continues to let down Tasmanians in desperate need of affordable housing, despite their constant claims to the contrary.

The government promised 500 new homes at Huntingfield, with legislation passed in 2018 to "fast track" the process, and the Development Application approved by the Kingborough Council a year ago this week.

But the government has only today announced that tenders for the Huntingfield development will be released this weekend.

That's a full year since the DA was approved and nearly five years since they agreed to "fast track" the process.

With thousands of Tasmanians still waiting for housing, this is nowhere near good enough, and clearly shows the Liberals will say anything, while doing the opposite.

The Housing Minister Guy Barnett continues to claim that no government in history has done more on housing, but anyone waiting for a secure roof over their head knows this is not true.

Instead of making big promises and delivering none of them, whilst focusing on a $750 million stadium no-one wants, the government needs to put Tasmanians first and act decisively to give them the help and support they need.
