Identity fraud in Bayswater

Police are appealing for assistance to identify a man they believe produced false identification in an attempt to activate a credit card last month, Victoria Police say.

Investigators believe the man attempted to activate a credit card online using a stolen identity on Saturday August 20.

Luckily the victim of the identity theft had already notified the bank and the attempt failed.

The man then went to a bank in Bayswater to try and activate the card using a stolen and fraudulently altered driver’s licence.

However the bank was suspicious and the man soon left, leaving the driver’s licence behind.

Police have released an image of a man they believe can assist with their enquiries, as well as an image of the altered driver’s licence used in the attempted fraud.

Anyone who recognises the man or with any information about the incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
