Southwest Sizzles, East Cools in National Forecast

We do have this strong and slow-moving high pressure system that's going to dominate the weather across much of the country, bringing generally dry and settled and mild weather.

But it will bring some onshore winds to the east coast, bring some moisture, cloud and a peppering of showers. And same for Tasmania. Onshore winds bringing a few showers to the west coast. Now that high is also going to be directing really warm to hot north-easterly winds down towards the south-west, with daytime temperatures well above average.

So let's go around the country now, taking a closer look. We'll start off with Queensland. We're expecting it to be a mild and partly cloudy day through eastern districts, with gusty south-easterly winds that will bring some moisture and a peppering of showers to the east coast and just those adjacent land areas. But as we head further inland, dry and sunny conditions. They join temperatures a couple of degrees below average for Brisbane, a partly cloudy day and a top of 24 °C.

A cool to mild day for New South Wales as well, with onshore winds bringing a bit of moisture to central and northern parts of the coast, with the possible isolated showers extending into the ranges as well, but for the remainder, dry and sunny conditions. For Sydney, a partly cloudy day with the risk of a light shower about the coastal fringe. A top of 19 °C, while for Canberra, morning frost, then a sunny day. Top of 17 °C.

A cool day for Victoria as well. We're expecting cloudy conditions through southern areas and also just 1 or 2 showers south of the ranges. They'll only be light, though, as we head further north. Dry and sunny conditions for Melbourne. A cloudy day with a slight chance of a shower about the south-eastern suburbs, a top of 16 °C.

Down in Tassie, we're expecting partly cloudy conditions with just some very light showers possible through western areas. Daytime temperatures in the low teens throughout the west, but warming up as we head further towards the north-east, reaching up to the high teens. For Hobart, a cloudy day and a top of 16 °C.

For South Australia, it will be a chilly start with morning frost patches, mainly near the ranges and east of the ranges, but then a sunny day. Daytime temperatures in the high teens throughout the south-east, but grading up to the mid 20s elsewhere. For Adelaide, a sunny day and a top of 18 °C.

Now for WA. As I mentioned, it's going to be really warm with those north-easterly winds. Daytime temperatures 6 to 12 degrees above average through that south-western area, and as well during the afternoon, a bit of cloud will develop and potentially even a shower or two through inland parts of the far west. For Perth, a sunny day and a top of 29 °C.

Moving on to our tropical north, it's going to be a generally dry and sunny day across the region, with gusty east-south-easterly winds and just the risk of a light shower throughout coastal areas. For Darwin, a sunny day with a top of 35 °C.
