Hort Innovation yesterday hosted its inaugural Impact Update, a first‑of‑its‑kind forum that brought growers together to connect, collaborate and hear how investment across research and development, trade and market access is supporting the long‑term profitability and resilience of Australian horticulture.
With Australian horticulture on track to be a $21 billion industry by 2030, Impact Update focused on what long‑term success looks like for growers - profitable, sustainable businesses that can manage costs, navigate risk and adapt as conditions change.
Hort Innovation CEO Brett Fifield said the event provided an important opportunity for growers to come together and share practical insights.
"Connecting growers across commodities and regions creates the space to share what's working, learn from each other and build collaboration across the industry," Mr Fifield said.
"We know this is a challenging operating environment, and that staying focused on what delivers value on farm matters. Today we heard directly from growers about what's working and where investment is making a difference, helping inform how we continue to support the industry."
Held alongside Hort Connections, the event took a whole‑of‑supply‑chain view, with insights from industry leaders spanning productivity, demand and value, biosecurity and risk, and exports and market access. Growers also shared first‑hand experiences of how investments are translating into better decisions, stronger margins and reduced risk on farm.
"Events like these are really valuable, bringing growers together from different industries to share what's working on farm and learn from each other," said Marie Piccone from Managing Director at Manbulloo Ltd.
"It's not often we get the chance to connect across regions and commodities in this way, so those conversations really stick with you and help you take something practical back into your own business."
At a time of ongoing pressure, staying connected matters. Thank you to the growers and partners who took the time to participate, share their experience and contribute to conversations that will help shape future priorities and lay the groundwork for Impact Update to return next year.
