India Mission Eyes Major Tourism, Trade Opportunities

  • Deputy Premier to undergo mission to India to advance beneficial exchanges in trade, investment, tourism and aviation
  • Key meetings to be held with aviation stakeholders, senior government representatives and businesses
  • India is currently Western Australia's 10thlargest trading partner

Non-stop flights between India and Perth are expected to be a priority talking point for the Deputy Premier as she heads to Delhi and Chennai tomorrow on a tourism and trade mission.

Rita Saffioti will meet with key Indian airlines to reinforce the demand for direct travel between India and WA, as the State's second largest market which remains unserved by an ongoing non-stop flight.

A tourism stakeholder event will be hosted by the Deputy Premier and attended by key travel businesses from across the Indian market to help position Western Australia as a desirable holiday destination for Indian travellers.

India was WA's 7thlargest international market by visitor numbers in the year ending September 2023, with 27,000 visitors spending an estimated $91 million in the State.

Alongside tourism opportunities, the Indian mission is aiming to enhance investment and trade relations between the two countries, and the Deputy Premier will meet with a range of business stakeholders, including senior representatives from mining, primary industries, innovation sectors, government and industry bodies.

India has one of the world's fastest growing economies and population leading to more opportunities for bilateral investment and trade.

Increasing connectivity will strengthen economic and cultural ties with mutual benefits.
