Australian Industry Group has welcomed Prime Minister Anthony Albanese's appointment of a new fuel supply taskforce co-ordinator, Anthea Harris, to manage a rapidly escalating crisis.
Ms Harris brings rare expertise for a national approach and will help drive co-ordination between the Commonwealth and the states and territories on both fuel supply and supply chain resilience.
Both households and industry need a predictable and certain environment as we work through uncertain geopolitical times. We need to manage this growing fuel supply crisis in a co-ordinated way, and states should not be tempted to develop a local response with different rules in each jurisdiction – our federation needs to be able to respond effectively.
A fragmented approach would have hampered our ability to support the food, medicines and essential goods our economy demands.
