Today, Jaime Battiste, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Crown-Indigenous Relations and Member of Parliament for Sydney-Victoria, announced a $95,500 non-repayable ACOA contribution to the Ingonish Development Society (IDS) to develop a regional tourism strategy.

The announcement was made on behalf of the Honourable Gudie Hutchings, Minister of Rural Economic Development and Minister responsible for ACOA.

This investment will help the society increase Ingonish's tourism potential under ACOA's Strategic Tourism Expansion Program (STEP). Regional stakeholders will work with consultants to identify ways to improve hosting abilities, increase experiential tourism offerings, and extend the tourism season, giving travellers even more reasons to stay and explore this must-see destination.

This announcement further demonstrates the Government of Canada's commitment to help communities seize new and exciting tourism opportunities that create jobs and support long-term economic growth in rural areas throughout Atlantic Canada.
