Innovation on display at agricultural expo

Jo Palmer, Minister for Primary Industries and Water

The latest technologies and robotics were on display at Hagley Farm School for this year's Agricultural Innovation Expo on Thursday.

Now in its ninth year, the expo is led by the Tasmanian Agricultural Productivity Group in collaboration with the Tasmanian Farmers and Graziers Association and brings together key stakeholders in the ultimate showcase of agri-tech developments.

Primary Industries and Water Minister Jo Palmer said the expo was an important event on the agricultural calendar.

"The Rockliff Liberal Government is a proud supporter of Tasmania's agriculture industry," Minister Palmer said.

"We know agri-tech developments such as sensing technologies, robotics, big data, the Internet of Things and cloud computing can rapidly increase farm productivity and improve efficiency and profitability across the value chain.

"The expo plays an important role in bringing people in the sector together to help agri-businesses thrive and supports our Government's target to grow the farm gate value of Tasmanian agriculture to $10 billion a year by 2050."

Advancing the industry through events such as this expo, and the application of innovative ideas showcased at the expo, is critical for the future of Tasmania's agriculture industry.
