International Women's Day 2023: Grants to support community initiatives

9 October 2022

Territory Labor is working to reduce gender-based disadvantages to ensure our community is fair, inclusive and safe for everyone.

Funding is now available to support activities that celebrate women's achievements, and support education and discussion about issues of gender inequality.

Grants of up to $3000 can be accessed by individuals or groups to encourage community participation in International Women's Day 2023.

International Women's Day is held on 8 March each year, and is a global celebration of the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. It also marks a call to action for accelerating women's equality.

The Northern Territory Government aims to achieve gender equality by providing equal access to social, economic and political resources, including protection under the law.

Guided by the Gender Equality Action Plan 2022-2025, Territory Labor's focus is on community engagement, health and wellbeing, safety, economic security, leadership and participation.

Those in remote and rural areas are encouraged to apply for the grants, full details of which are available online: here.

Quotes from Minister for Equality and Inclusion, Lauren Moss:

"Gender equality is imperative in improving social cohesion and building a better society for everyone.

"We're building on the progress we've already made under our Gender Equality Action Plan which, for example, has seen the representation of women on government boards almost double over the past five years.

"International Women's Day is a celebration but also a time to stand with those who face intersectional discrimination, including Aboriginal and migrant women, older women, women with disabilities and members of our LGBTQI+ community.

"These grants can help us to reflect on those who've paved the way in seeking equality, and on how we continue to work towards a world where women and girls no longer face gendered discrimination and bias."
