Ipswich industrial fire contained

Compliance officers with the Department of Environment, Science and Innovation (DESI) are monitoring the potential smoke impacts of a fire that was contained yesterday at the Wood Mulching Industries (WMI) composting site in Swanbank.

The Queensland Fire and Emergency Service (QFES) responded immediately, helping to contain fire and smoke impacts.

It is understood the fire started in one of the unprocessed green waste compost stockpiles.

QFES determined that WMI was taking appropriate actions to manage the fire when they arrived on location.

DESI attended the site yesterday to ensure the company complies with its environmental obligations.

The department maintains a 24-hour statewide pollution hotline and is monitoring the odour situation in the Swanbank area.

In March 2021 WMI was fined $13,345 by the department for odour issues affecting residents in Redbank Plains.

To report pollution incidents to the Queensland Government, you can call the 24/7 Pollution Hotline on 1300 130 372.
