Marc Koper, Professor of Catalysis and surface chemistry, has been awarded the EuChemS Gold Medal 2026. The prize is awarded every two years and recognises outstanding achievements in the field of chemistry in Europe.
'This award is a great honour for me,' says Marc Koper. 'It's a broad chemistry prize, and the list of previous winners includes some very prominent names. It's quite something to be on that list myself.'
According to Koper, the award shows that he, his institute, and his research group have made the right choices over the years. 'It's a form of recognition from the wider chemistry community, and that means a lot.'
International recognition
EuChemS, the European Chemical Society, is an umbrella organisation representing national chemical societies and other chemistry-related organisations across Europe. It also provides a platform for scientific discussion.
Koper is receiving the award in recognition of his internationally respected work on electrocatalysis, electrochemical surface science, and their applications in renewable energy. The award will be presented in July next year, during the EuChemS Congress in Antwerp.
