JACET Charges - Greater Darwin Region

Northern Territory Police have charged a 21-year-old male in relation to a number of sex offences in the Greater Darwin Region.

It is alleged that the male engaged in sexual intercourse with a child under the age of 16.

On Tuesday 20 December 2022, detectives from the NT Police Child Abuse Taskforce and the Joint Anti-Child Exploitation Team (JACET) executed a search warrant at the male's residence, with a number of electronic devices seized.

The man was arrested and charged with:

  • Sexual intercourse with a child under 16 x 2
  • Use Carriage Service to Procure a child under 16 years
  • Indecent Dealings with a Child under 16 years

He was remanded to appear in court today.

Detective Acting Superintendent Justin Bentley said "This behaviour is completely reprehensible and has no place in our community, with the offender grooming the victim over a period of time across social media channels".

"Police urge parents to consider their children's online safety by reviewing their children's online activity and the social media platforms that they use.

"Prevention and education are essential in keeping children safe online."
