JCU Vet is expanding, with additional consultation rooms to be delivered as part of a facility upgrade.
The expansion project includes two new consultation rooms – to take the total to seven – and extra internal offices to create more room for the veterinary team.
JCU Vet is a veterinary teaching hospital and the facility upgrade will provide more opportunities for final-year vet students to gain hands-on clinical experience under the guidance of experienced vets and specialists.
It will also mean extra capacity so more four-legged patients can be treated.
JCU Vet Business Development Manager Rohan May said the expansion project would deliver benefits for pet owners, staff and students.
"Pets play such an important role in the lives of so many North Queenslanders and we want to make sure we can treat and care for even more pets across our region," he said.
"This upgrade will provide more support to pet owners, our vets and JCU vet students who are completing their studies."
JCU Vet, located at the Bebegu Yumba campus in Douglas, provides 24-hour emergency and critical care, specialist referral services, general practice and advanced diagnostic and surgical care to pets across North Queensland.
There is no impact on JCU Vet's services or operations while the university is conducting a consultation process around the future of the Veterinary Diagnostic Pathology Laboratory until July 31. This is a separate diagnostic facility that is used by the university's staff and students along with certain community groups.
